The Problem
Pool decks take more punishment than any other outdoor surface.
Constant water exposure. Chlorine and salt water. Direct sun for hours every day. Heavy foot traffic from wet bare feet. And on a coastal property — salt air corrosion on top of all of it. Most pool deck surfaces are not engineered for this combination of conditions.
A resin bound pool deck handles each of these demands by design. The surface is fully permeable — pool water, rain, and splash drain through rather than pooling on the deck. The texture provides firm grip when wet without being abrasive on bare feet. And the resin binder is specified for resistance to both chlorine and salt air exposure, so the surface holds up through seasons of heavy pool use without staining, fading, or deteriorating.
For a coastal property with a pool, this is the surface that performs the way the rest of the property deserves.
Sound Familiar?
Pool deck problems coastal homeowners deal with most.
These are the complaints we hear before homeowners switch to a surface that actually holds up around a pool.
“Our concrete pool deck is constantly stained from chlorine and salt water. We’ve had it sealed twice and it still looks terrible.”
“The travertine pavers around our pool are shifting and cracking. Water is getting underneath and the surface is becoming uneven.”
“The deck gets so hot in the afternoon that no one will walk on it barefoot. We had to buy a rubber mat just to get to the pool.”
“Our tile grout around the pool is turning black from the moisture. The contractor says we need to re-grout every two years.”
“Water pools on the deck instead of draining. After every rain we’re sweeping water away from the edge for an hour.”
“The surface looked fine when installed. After one season of salt air and pool chemicals the color faded and the surface started pitting.”
A resin bound pool deck is specified for exactly these conditions — pool chemicals, salt air, constant moisture, and direct coastal sun. Every one of these problems is preventable.
The Material
Why resin bound pool deck surfaces perform differently.
Resin bound surfacing is produced by thoroughly mixing natural aggregate with a clear UV-stable resin, then laying it in a continuous bound layer over a prepared base. Every stone is fully coated and locked in place — no gaps, no loose material, no grout lines where moisture can penetrate and cause damage.
For pool deck applications specifically, we select aggregate blends and resin systems rated for resistance to chlorine, pool chemicals, and salt air exposure. The finish is textured enough to provide reliable grip on wet bare feet without being rough or abrasive — meeting ADA slip-resistance requirements and Clean Water Act drainage standards.
Lighter aggregate color blends are available that reflect heat rather than absorbing it — significantly reducing surface temperature in direct afternoon sun compared to concrete, tile, or dark pavers.
Installation
Two installation approaches for pool deck surfaces.
OVERLAY INSTALLATION
Resin bound surfacing applied over an existing structurally sound concrete pool deck — without demolition or excavation. The existing slab is assessed, prepared, and primed before the resin bound layer is installed over the top.
Best suited for: pool decks with intact concrete in good structural condition, renovation projects where disruption to the pool area needs to be minimized, overlay projects where drainage is already adequate.
GROUND-UP INSTALLATION
Full removal of the existing deck, engineered sub-base construction, and resin bound installation from the ground up. Required when existing surfaces show structural damage, significant drainage failure, or when a new pool deck is being installed where none existed.
Best suited for: new pool construction, decks with cracked or failing concrete, properties with chronic pooling around the pool edge, sites requiring grade correction for proper drainage away from the pool.
Our Process
Every resin bound pool deck starts with a thorough site evaluation.
1
Site Assessment
We evaluate the existing deck surface, drainage patterns, pool edge conditions, and sub-base integrity before recommending an installation approach or material specification.
2
Custom Specification
Aggregate blend, slip resistance rating, base build-up, edge detailing, and drainage integration are specified for your pool environment and coastal conditions — not from a standard package.
3
Certified Installation
Installed by a certified resin bound specialist with 25 years of experience constructing exterior surfaces in the Lowcountry and coastal Georgia.
4
Warranty Coverage
Every resin bound pool deck carries a 20-year product warranty. Materials are sourced from manufacturers with documented resistance to pool chemicals and coastal salt air exposure.
Why It Works Here
Built for pool environments on the coast.
Cool Underfoot
Lighter aggregate color blends reflect heat rather than absorbing it. Significantly cooler underfoot in direct afternoon sun than concrete, dark tile, or asphalt surfaces.
Chemical Resistant
Resin and aggregate systems specified for resistance to chlorine, pool chemicals, and salt water exposure — the primary causes of surface breakdown around coastal pools.
Fully Permeable
Pool water, rain, and splash drain through the surface rather than pooling on the deck. No standing water. No puddles at the pool edge. No runoff toward the home foundation.
Slip Resistant When Wet
Textured aggregate finish provides reliable grip on wet bare feet — firm enough for safety without being abrasive on skin. Tested for pool deck slip resistance standards.

Where We Work
Serving coastal South Carolina and Georgia.
We install resin bound pool decks across the Lowcountry and coastal Georgia — including Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Daniel Island, Mount Pleasant, Charleston, Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Hilton Head, and surrounding waterfront communities.
Coastal pool environments vary significantly by location. Salt exposure levels, drainage conditions, and sun orientation are evaluated for every project before a material specification is made.
